Information for Survivors of Domestic Violence and How to Obtain an Order of Protection during COVID-19

Restrictions aimed to stop the spread of the Coronavirus may be making domestic violence in homes more frequent, more severe, and more dangerous. We are dedicated to stopping Domestic Violence and doing whatever we can to prevent partners and children from suffering at the hands of their abusers.

Legal Services of Eastern Missouri recently put together Information for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Family Law Toolkit for Survivors of Domestic Violence during COVID-19, and released a 30 minute recorded webinar on their Facebook page and on YouTube that covers Orders of Protection, custody issues, and general Family Court questions during COVID-19. These links offer helpful information on how to obtain an Order of Protection, custody exchanges during the statewide stay-at-home order, court appearances, child support orders, Domestic Violence Shelters open during the pandemic, and other helpful information to provide assistance. They also offer information about Additional Community Information Resources regarding food stamps, unemployment, and other benefits available during COVID-19.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline also provides numerous resources, including advocates that are available 24/7 by calling 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) in more than 200 languages. All calls are free and confidential. Their website also provides additional resources.

If you are a victim of Domestic Violence and need to file an Order of Protection in St. Louis County, you can complete and submit an Order of Protection online on the St. Louis County Court’s website. If you are unable to submit your petition directly to the Court online, you may visit the courthouse at 105 S. Central Avenue, Clayton, Missouri 63105, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. If there is an emergency and you need to file after hours, you can visit the nearest police department in St. Louis County.
